The 6th grade teams have really picked up on their empty bowls project, and the quality of the work has been improving all week. The bowls created in class over the next few weeks will be donated to the Empty Bowls Family Dinner that we will be holding at and with
Attea’s visual art classes on May 20th. Each student has been working collaboratively with a team of students to create the bowls, so there is no “ownership” of one individual bowl, but a group endeavor to create artwork that will be used for our community. During class a student team might have started a new bowl, some have been working on additive or subtractive sculpture methods in decorating the bowl forms utilizing texture, and soon the student teams will be adding color to our pieces with food safe glazes. To record the work from class, each student has been creating an Online Journal in their “Art on Line” accounts. Ask your child to sign in
above to see theirs. Click on the images here to go to a gallery of photos from class, and check back to see more images of the students at work.
The date for our Empty Bowls Event, May 20th, is also when we will be having our 7th Annual Middle School Fine Arts Fair at the Park Center. Any parents who would like to volunteer for helping with empty bowls by donating a homemade soup or bread can contact Susie Feldstein. Parents who are not as culinarily inclined but would like to help with hanging the art show at the park center should contact the PTA art Fair Chairperson, Markie Condon.
I know Ms. Wu from Attea, Mrs. Christopolous from both Springman and Attea, and I (Mr. K) really appreciate all the help in putting on these events!
