The Summit team has started their last project in the art room, utilizing gesture drawing to create a wire sculpture. During the past three days in the art room, students have started to create a series of drawings that focus and capture the action or motion of the figure. Individual students posed for the group, where we have been looking to emphasize the potential movement and stresses in the student pose. These drawings were completed in 30 seconds to 3 minutes, trying to quickly capture the expression of the figure as well as the proportion. The focus is on the movement and size, not the details! We identified dominant lines that express the skeletal structure, body masses that locate the larger shapes in the body, and expressive lines that emphasize the “action” or motion of the figure. The Summit team has finished their Graphic design prints in class last week, great job guys! Each student was asked to represent themselves with thier print. Look for items and symbols that represent personal interests and who they think they are, or would like to be. Each student was asked to create a contrast of value within the design, making the print “POP” from the colors of the tie-dye. Click on the image here to go to a gallery of the finished prints!

The Summit Team has been working hard in creating graphic designs for their tie-dye shirts. The designs are personal logos, expressing something about each student. We are using silk screening to create our designs. Each student used contrasting values of black and white to create their design on paper, then using an X-Acto knife, cut out the black areas of their design. The resulting stencil will be placed between the shirt to be printed on and the screen. The summit team did an outstanding job on their style paintings. Each student picked one of the four different movements in art covered in class. We discussed the movements of Classicism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Cubism, looking at the different styles masters in a PowerPoint, presentation. Each student tried to represent the major points of the style in their painting. Click on James C.’s outstanding Impressionistic image here to go to a gallery of the finished paintings. The art club has been working on a new project, we are painting the ceiling in the fine arts wing using the work of Vincent VanGogh as our inspiration. We are starting out by the art room door looking at the painting “Starry Night” as our guide, and as we continue down the hall we will be creating a “dawn” and morphing into our interpretation of the painting the “The Olive Grove” Check the hallway over the next few weeks to see the progress and look back here for more images soon!
